Undergraduate Program
The African and African Diaspora Studies (AADS) department, in concert with the John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies, AGBS, and the Institute for Policy and Research, is dedicated to the study of the intellectual, political, artistic, and social experiences of people of African descent throughout Africa and the African Diaspora, including the United States.

Why join AADS?
AADS majors join world-class UT faculty, staff and students to study topics such as anthropology; diaspora theory (particularly in Central and South America); education; health; identity; law, policy and government; art, literature, music and performance theory; engaged scholarship; quantitiative and qualititative research methods; media; sports; and more.
AADS students who are interested in pre-med, pre-law and pre-grad school options will find that an AADS major will complement their future career and academic plans.
In the required AFR 375: Community Internship course, AADS majors will have the opportunity to give back and gain career experience by directly supporting Austin-area organizations.
Degrees and Programs
Undergraduate students interested in joining AADS have a variety of degree plans and programs to choose from. AADS offers a major, minor, and African Studies certificate, and is a co-collaborator in the Race, Indigeneity, and Migration program and the Warfield Affiliate program. Students who enroll in AADS classes, attend events and socials, or apply for awards & grants from the department can join AADS through these collaborative programs.
