Registration FAQ

  • This class says it is reserved. Can I take it?

Maybe, maybe not. Let’s break it down a little:

    Health and Society classes (other than H S 340 Cancerland, H S 679HA, and H S 679HB):

These classes are reserved for Health and Society majors. If you are a Health and Society major (and meet the prerequisite) you should be able to add it as long as seats remain available. If you are not a Health and Society major, you will not be able to add this class at this time. If seats remain available, some may be released to non-majors in on April 19. Some of our classes are cross-listed with other departments. If you cannot get into our side of the class, perhaps try theirs.

    What about H S 679HA and 679HB?

Those are our Honors Thesis classes. If you are interested in completing departmental honors, please schedule an advising appointment to discuss applying to the program.

What about this Sociology class that is on one of the H S lists?

Sociology is kind enough to reserve seats in some of their health-related classes for Health and Society students. As such, you may be able to add it, as long as these seats remain. If you try to register for the class and you are not allowed, that normally means that all of the Health and Society seats have been claimed.

What about this other class (that is not H S or SOC)?

That is up to the department offering the class. You should reach out to that department directly for more information!

  • I need this class to graduate, what do I do?

If you have not tried to register for it yet, please do that first. If, for some reason, you are not able to register for it, please reach out to the department offering the class and schedule an appointment with your advisor (see below). You and your advisor can discuss whether or not there are any other options for that requirement.

  • How do I schedule an advising appointment?

For H S majors: One of our advisors will be happy to meet with you! Please visit our advising page for more information about scheduling an advising appointment.

For non-H S majors: We are only be able to meet with students who have officially declared the major. If you are a UT student planning on applying to major this semester, please come to one of our Info Sessions. Reminder: applications are due May 1!

  • I am a Health and Society student, but I am not able to schedule an advising appointment before my registration time. What do I do?

Don’t worry! Schedule an appointment for a time that works for you, after your registration begins. Try your best to register for classes on your own when you are able to. Then, in your appointment, you can discuss the classes you signed up for and any changes that may be recommended. To help prepare for registration on your own, please look at your Interactive Degree Audit. You can find information about major requirements here. You can find lists for core and Liberal Arts requirements here.

  • When do I register?

Registration will take place April 8-19. You can find your personal registration times on your Registration Information Sheet.
